Peak Freaks

"I think there's an element of wishful thinking and that some Peak Oil adherents are looking for a deus ex machina to sweep away the disaster that is contemporary industrial civilization -- and understandably so. Waiting for Peak Oil is so convenient, so much simpler, and so much more seductive than the hard work of organizing for social and ecological change."

-- Economist Charles Komanoff in Peak Freaks, my dispatch from the front lines of the Peak Oil movement, published this week on Freezerbox.

Thanks, that was fascinating... the Press should have used it instead of the piece of crap story on the Petrocollapse Conference that they printed.

It's a shame that so many Peak Oil people are loonies. Even Kunstler has his cringe-inducing moments.

=v= A lot of Peak Oil people are, of course, not loonies. I've noticed that there are those who use the scenario as an excuse for inaction, much as Charles Komanoff describes it.

Aaron,
Great reporting on the PetroCollapse Conference and the bi-partisan town hall meeting at NYU for those of us who couldn't attend. And great insight into the competing mindsets of those people looking at the future energy environment.
