Auto-Free NYC Presentation

I'll be doing a presentation at George Haikalis' monthly Auto-Free New York meeting on Tuesday, September 25, 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The talk is being called, "The End of Cheap Oil -- How Will NYC Cope?" It will mostly be focused on transportation and urban design ideas that can help New York City deal with our nation's growing, long-term energy crisis. The meeting will be held in the police station at 104 Washington Street in Lower Manhattan. Come if you can. George and his partner Roxanne Warren are doing some great projects and these meetings are usually pretty interesting.

What time? The Auto-Free site doesn't say either.

Good question! I will find out and post that ASAP.

David,

6-8pm.

Greetings. "The Big One" is terrific. I've quoted it and linked to it every chance I've gotten.

Thanks. Glad you liked it.

The big expert on Hog Island is Professor Nicholas Coch at CUNY Queens College. He's in the geology department. Likewise, you can read more about Hog Island in a 1997 New York Times Metro section story. Find it via the Times' web site or Nexis if you have access to it. Coch said back in 97 that there are some maps and some old-timers down there who remember stories about it. Likewise, you can read about Hog Island in the August, I believe, 26th, 1893 New York Times. Search for the term "Stephen Stillwagon." He was a big hero during the hurricane. He saved a family that was trapped on Hog Island.

Thanks Peakguy. You've got a great site. I'll get that ppt online as soon as I can. Stay tuned.
