End of Year Honors
USA Today has named my book,
Honku: The Zen Antidote to Road Rage, as one of the
Ten Worst Books of 2003!!! This is a little bit strange seeing as how the very same publication gave the book
a glowing review last summer in a trend story about haiku humor. It seems that the editor has reconsidered and now feels ripped off that for $12.95 she only got one honku per page. Though the complaint is more about quantity than quality, this appears to be the first mainstream reviewer to catch on to the fact that
Honku really isn't only about "lightening up" that dreadful morning commute. The book's humor also delivers a somewhat harsh critique of American motorism. Nevertheless, I find myself strangely pleased that at least they're thinking of me. In a demented way I also think it's kind of neat to be on a year-end "list" with Hillary Clinton and Dr. Phil. What does this say about my general sense of self-esteem? Next year, I'm shooting for
People Magazine's Worst Dressed List.
